DHL accomplishes “Mission Impossible” to deliver Mi: III film for premiere

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics service company, has delivered the actual reels of the film “Mission: Impossible III” to Warner Village today in time for the Gala Premiere.

DHL Express Taiwan General Manager Connie Tang said, “It is a great honor for DHL to be the offi-cial shipping and logistics partner for the motion picture. Combined with our international network of over 220 countries and territories, DHL has delivered a total of 50,000kg of film equipment to Italy, Germany, United States and China, and also shipped six pallets of cars, camera gear, film material, and numerous props by land, sea, and air to achieve the “Mission Impossible”.

“The DHL logistics service team worked and stood-by 24/7 to deal with the difficult task through 3 continents - Europe, Asia and America.” Ms Tang added. When talking about how DHL dealt with the film-related equipment, she said, “We not only gave our full strength to achieve all the missions given by our customer, we also achieved the entire mission that seemed impossible to the best ex-tent.”

For example, DHL also delivered 2 pallets of water supplies to the on-site staff during the movie shooting, and even delivered 8 crates of fitness equipment for the actors and the crew of the film, thus allowing the famous international superstar to stay in the best physical condition during the long and intensive filming process.

“We are very pleased to be the official shipping and logistics partner for ‘Mission: Impossible III,’” said Manfred Harnischfeger, Executive Vice President Corporate Communications of Deutsche Post World Net. “With decades of experience in this industry, we understand the importance of delivering on time and going the extra mile to make impossible missions possible. Transportation is our core business and our partnership with Paramount Pictures further reinforces our commitment to custo-mers that no matter which industry they are in, DHL is able to provide fast and reliable service to over 220 countries around the world.”

Ms. Tang reminded all the fans planning to see the movie that DHL not only delivered all the film equipment, but the DHL courier truck, in its customary bright yellow, is also featured in the movie.

Some interesting facts
  • Total Air Freight was 50,000 kg.
  • We had 6 cars, 4 BMW 740IL and 2 Land Rover LR3s.
  • We also transported fitness equipment of the actors and the crew of the film which was packed into 8 crates.
  • The other freight included camera equipment from Panavision, as well as lighting and other equipment needed for the set.
  • The freight to Beijing was shipped on commercial flights on 3 consecutive weekends. The shipments were received in part at our warehouse. Whenever Paramount finished filming in Los Angeles, they dropped the equipment at our warehouse where it was built into pallets for transportation to China.
  • The smallest shipment was a shipment to Rome with some Baseball hats and other promo-tional items from Paramount.
  • The biggest challenge was the set up of the charter flight from Beijing to Los Angeles. DHL Global Forwarding made arrangements with Air China and chartered a 747 Freighter to bring back the freight in one flight. The negotiations for the charter lasted about 3 weeks and was finalized about 10 days before the charter flight took off..
  • We also shipped 2 pallets of water supplies for the film crew.
  • Locally we used 3 53' trailers for the transfer from our warehouse to the airport and back.
  • The documentation needed to be filled out in special way, including Chinese translations for the Air waybill.
  • The packing list of the shipment actually became as thick as a book. A great challenge for the customs brokers.
  • We had around 6 people working on this project which needed to be available 24/7.
