DHL pioneers real-time tracking system
DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, has introduced a new groundbreaking technology known as the Quality Shipment Monitoring System (QSMS), making it the first in the industry to offer customers real-time shipment tracking. With this system, DHL can proactively inform customers about the status of their shipments, and respond instantly to potential shipment delays.
Developed and trialled over the past 12 months, QSMS is the only real-time freight tracking system in use.
“In an industry where speed and reliability are paramount to the success of our customers, QSMS provides additional security as DHL can immediately respond to operational problems and alert customers of any shipment delays,” said Connie Tang, General Manager DHL Express Taiwan
“It is this proactive and early notification that customers really appreciate. In this type of industry, there's always scope for a minor hiccup - whether it can be traffic jam, a truck breaking down or fog at the airport. Customers understand this, but the earlier they are informed, the better they can respond to the issue,” said Ms. Tang.
From the moment a shipment is picked up by a courier, DHL can monitor its movements at 17 different check points until it is delivered. This enables DHL to identify a problem as soon as it occurs and resolve the issue in real time.
QSMS was developed as part of DHL’s global mandate to put innovation at the forefront of its business strategy. DHL is the pioneer of such software and hardware. It is a big investment, but the forward thinking and innovation behind it, as well as the quality control it provides, are beneficial to customers and DHL. It is being implemented in 13 countries in the Asia Pacific region.
QSMS is an important milestone since the establishment of the Quality Control Center in August 2005, as DHL constantly seeks to improve client services. The Quality Control Center is located in the Gateway at the Taipei CKS Airport and uses the latest, state-of-the-art technology to monitor every single shipment, and reports back to the Taiwan QCC . It operates 24 hours a day and is connected to DHL’s global network system to monitor each shipment and thus guarantee safe and timely client delivery needs.
