The 4th Annual Taiwan Business Awards Ceremony
Honors ten entrepreneurs and enterprises
The Taiwan Business Awards, the most highly regarded business awards in Taiwan, conducted its fourth annual gala ceremony dinner tonight to honor the ten winners and their outstanding contributions to Taiwan’s economic development.
Steve Chen, the Minister of Economic Affairs, attended the ceremony, co-sponsored by DHL and China Times, to share the joy and honor of all the winners, and to affirm the importance of the award to Taiwan’s economic development.
A spectacular performance by the Ten Drum Art Percussion kicked off the ceremony. The performance, imbued with Taiwan’s history and natural beauty, underscores the role of culture in perpetuating the island of Taiwan, resonating with this year’s theme of “Vision and Sustainability”
Jerry Hsu, Regional Director of Greater China, DHL Express, indicated that Taiwan’s economy has steadily recovered and grown in the past year. Themed “Vision and Sustainability,” this year’s Taiwan Business Awards pay tribute to entrepreneurs and enterprises that look forward to the future, are not complacent about past glories and present success, and continue to seek sustainable operations and development. As a business facilitator, DHL is partner and champion to Taiwan businesses opening up to global markets in order to reach greater heights.
Albert Yu, Chairman of the China Times Group, said Taiwan’s politics, society, and economy have all come under pressure this year. The theme of “Vision and Sustainability” this year hopes Taiwan and its enterprises will continue to use forward thinking to achieve sustainable growth amid unrelenting competition in the global economy.
The judging panel indicated that competition was particularly fierce with year, with all finalists well-qualified to set the benchmark for businesses in Taiwan. Starting this year, the “Best Social Contribution Award” is divided into two categories. In addition to the existing corporate category, the non-profit organization category was introduced as the organizers wish to pay tribute to the commendable social work spearheaded by charitable organizations.
The winner of this year’s “Best Entrepreneur Award,” Jonny Shih, Chairman of ASUSTeK Computer, was unanimously nominated by all members of the judging panel. Shih attributed ASUSTeK’s world-renowned quality and branding success to all ASUSTeK employees.
In a testament to the caliber of candidates this year, the judging panel conferred the “Outstanding Management Award” and the “Best Social Contribution Award – Non-profit Organization Category” to two winners each.
The co-winners of the “Outstanding Management Award” are Harvey Chang, President of Taiwan Mobile Corporation, and CHEN Jun-lian, a Director of the Board of Eden Social Welfare Foundation. Chang attributed his personal success as a manager to the cohesion of his team, while CHEN’s representative HUANG Cho-sung, Executive Director of Eden Social Welfare Foundation, thanked the society at large for their encouragement and selfless donations.
The “Best Social Contribution Award – Non-profit Organization Category” went to Syin-lu Welfare Foundation and the Consumers’ Foundation. HUANG Wen-jo, Chairman of Syin-lu Welfare Foundation, a society needs the help and support of its citizens to progress. CHENG Jen-hung, Chairman of the Consumers’ Foundation, said the most effective vehicle for protecting consumer rights is legislation.
Other recipients of the Taiwan Business Awards include Taiwan Mobile Corporation for the “Best Social Contribution Award – Corporate Category.” Company President Harvey Chang said Taiwan Mobile has committed its technological resources to charitable work, and has acted as an instigator of charitable initiatives in the broader community.
The “International Achievement Award” went to Trend Micro. The company’s Vice President WANG Chun-yi said Trend Micro’s success was built on its founding vision of a world-domineering brand, and urges more Taiwan businesses to set goals and visions.
Hsin Yung Chien Corporation won the “Best Small and Medium Enterprise Award,” and the company’s President LIN Chi-yo, said it has benefited from as much as it has contributed to Taiwan. LIN added Hsin Yung Chien will keep its roots in Taiwan toward, contributing to the stability of the island.
The “Best Innovation Management Award” went to A-Data Technology. President Tier Wang said due to A-Data employees’ collective habit of innovation, the company has grown over 30-fold in just five short years.
TSAI Cheng-hsien, Chairman of Bionet Corporation, the winner of the “Young Entrepreneur Award,” said he hopes the people of Taiwan will use forward thinking to create new industries, injecting vitality to Taiwan’s society and economy.

Since 2003, China Times and DHL Taiwan have co-hosted the highly acclaimed Taiwan Business Awards for three successive years.
