DHL inaugurates new Tainan Service Center

New facility offers superior global logistics services to customers

DHL, the world's leading express and logistics company, announced today the opening of a new service center in Jen-de Township, Tainan County, in Southern Taiwan. The completion of the new service center not only strengthens DHL’s commitment to Tainan, but also raises the international competitiveness of the region’s businesses by offering even faster, more efficient and integrated air express and logistics solutions. The new service center was built to meet burgeoning market demand and underscores DHL’s confidence in the economic development of Southern Taiwan.

“In 1999, DHL Express Taiwan launched a 'Taiwan Anchor Investment Program' to enhance infrastructure and quality in express deliveries. More than NT$1 billion (US$3.1 million) has been invested on the construction of 10 large service centers, and building up an unparalleled service network in Taiwan,” said Stuart Whiting, General Manager, DHL Express Taiwan. ”The construction of the new Tainan Service Center amounts to NT$56 million (US$1.8 million), and follows DHL’s high global operational standards. To meet the growing air express and logistics needs of local customers, DHL is committed to deliver superior and efficient services with the new facility.”

In 1981, DHL Express Taiwan was the first in the industry to set up a service center in Tainan, and over the past 25 years, retained its leadership position in the Tainan area through continuous upgrades in infrastructure and service. The new Tainan Service Center was built at a new, larger site, to keep pace with the rapidly growing local economy and customer demand. Maximum throughput at the center is now 2,000 parcels per day, allowing the center to provide superior international express and logistics services, and creates competitive advantages for customers in the Tainan area.

DHL Tainan Service Center is a large-scale operations facility, with the first floor allocated for operations and the second floor as office space. Occupying an area of almost 1,700 square meters (500 pings), it is designed on the drive-in model, and features cutting-edge technology including a Material Handling System and Next Generation Scanners. Meanwhile, the facility also meets the high safety standards of the Technology Asset Protection Association (TAPA) . It is equipped with a closed-circuit monitoring system with 30 video cameras, power generator, uninterrupted power system, and fire extinguishing equipment. Security guards will patrol the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure the safety of shipments and staff on the premises.

DHL Tainan Service Center is located on the high-traffic Wen-hua Road in Jen-de Township, which occupies a strategic location between the Tainan Airport, Tainan City, and the Jen-de exit of the National Highway. The new facility’s service area will cover Tainan City, Tainan County, as well as the Lu-chu, Hu-nei, Kang-shan and A-lien townships within Kaohsiung County.

Additionally, key industrial parks and storage facilities, such as the Tainan Science Park and the Lu-chu Science Park, are located within the service radius of the service center. In the future, the service center will be able to link the emerging new businesses of this area to the global markets. It is also an important injection of vigor into this area, which is going through a fast-paced transition from traditional manufacturing to high-tech industries.
